For years I’ve been using a 19.2V Porter Cable drill for many of my projects including some launcher work. Removing valve screws, tapping pressure chambers, etc. It has been a real workhorse. It is still going strong even after all these years. On the original NiCad batteries. It pays to take good care of your batteries.
Recently I decided to upgrade to Lithium. Lithium Iron is the coming technology, and I use it for powering Radios in the field. One manufacturer makes battery tools with Lithium Iron and has for years. The rest of the tool vendors use Lithium Manganese which is almost as good. Continue reading →

CSV19T Antenna Launcher
Here is a new CSV19T threaded launcher assembled today. Ready to go.
The CSV19 fits nicely into the Rubbermaid 10 gallon totes. These were the containers that the CSV19 was designed for. For some reason, this size of these totes became unavailable for several years. Lowe’s brought them back on an exclusive deal a few years ago, and we were glad to see them. They are now available at Home Depot as well as we observed them there today. If you have a CSV19 and don’t have a good way to store and carry it then here is a good answer.

Safe Launching!!

Periodically we have difficulty getting our special barrel material, and that happened just before Field Day this year. The supplier we had been using changed their computer system and seemed to lose the recipe for ordering this little used variety of pipe. After Field Day I put in another order and they found a batch for us. I don’t know if it will be a problem next time, but I ordered enough to do for quite a while.
We have a new discussion list that is getting started. Our discussion lists tend to be pretty quiet. If you have questions that is the place to go. One question we’d like to ask you – is threaded versus cemented launchers. We are nearing the end of the batch of threaded valves and we’d like to hear from folks as to which type they prefer. Join us on the discussion list and let’s hear from you!
